When you’re picking out a new cooler for your summer fun activities, do you compare makes and models like you’re buying a new car? Do you just look at price and brand familiarity, or do you look at the specification and the pros vs. cons? There are a lot more factors than one might not realize when purchasing their ice storage products.
On the way to an outdoor adventure such as boating, picnics, and pool parties, most Texans swing by the gas station and grab some bagged ice and load up the cooler. But, when the cooler was purchased, it didn’t clearly state its own rating score on the important factors: durability, portability, insulation value, or insulation style. These important factors, along with price and capacity, can really make or break the deal when choosing the best cooler for ice storage purposes.
According to recent reviews on cooler models, price doesn’t truly mean that one is better than the other for your ice products.
Top Ranked Coolers:
Yeti Tundra 45
Priced the highest at $350, this cooler received the top ranking. With an overall score of 84 out of 100, the Yeti Tundra received 5 stars from the editors and users. Its pros were strong and insulating, while cons were related to it being heavy in price and weight. With a 9 out of 10 for durability and insulation value, it also received an 8 out of 10 on ease of use and 7 out of 10 for portability. Even though it received the highest ranking, it doesn’t even come with wheels, but it does hold the highest score on the ice remaining test.
Pelican 45 Elite
Priced at a whopping $277, this beast of a cooler received the second highest ranking with an overall score of 80 out of 100. The Pelican 45 is durable and highly insulated, but is quite heavy and bulky. Also receiving a 9 out of 10 on durability and insulation value as well as an 8 out 10 on ease of use; but, it received a much lower score on portability with a 5 out 10. As the second highest ranking, it also doesn’t have wheels, yet is the heaviest weighing in at 35 pounds.
Coleman 62 Xtreme Wheeled
Priced much lower at $54 and being a well-known brand, this cooler ranked third with an overall score of 78 out of 100. Its pros come from the low selling price and convenient lid cup holders, while its small side handles were not so pleasing. With an 8 out of 10 for ease of use, insulation value, and portability, it only received one point less on durability with a 7 out of 10. Having wheels and weighing in at only 14 pounds, it’s no wonder the Coleman 62 Xtreme was awarded a “best buy” by editors.
With other familiar brands, including Igloo, on the top 8 cooler ranking list for this year showing up at a variety of price points, it goes to show that high end and high price aren’t everything when you need your ice blocks and ice cubes to keep your food and beverages cold. When you’re loading up your cooler this summer, not only is a high-quality cooler the important factor, but high-quality solid ice cubes are key as well. Emergency Ice products are made properly with clean, crystal clear water and at the highest ice to water ratio for optimum beverage cooling capabilities.
